Muffin Break Earns A Spot On AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List 2019
Muffin Break has just been recognised for their commitment to industry leading innovation, earning a top spot on the AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List for 2019. Sitting at the number eight spot across Australia and New Zealand’s:
- and Entertainment sectors
The bakery cafe stalwarts join the likes of Archie Rose Distilling Co. (number one), Caltex Australia (number three), Tourism Australia (number seven), and Officeworks (number ten).
This was secured through their Sustainability Campaign, which introduced coffee cup recycling. Partnered with Simply Cups in an effort to reduce the volume of waste produced by coffee cups, the concept was simple. For every takeaway coffee or hot drink sold at one of Muffin Break’s 200 stores across Australia, Muffin Break would pay to have a cup recycled by Simply Cups. The goal was to prevent an ambitious total of 11 million cups from eventually ending up in a landfill.
“That’s what sets Muffin Break apart,” says Natalie Brennan, Muffin Break General Manager.
“We listen to our customers’ needs and concerns, and we ensure the brand delivers on exactly that to keep us relevant to the modern conversation.”
This year, over 800 nominations and 400 shortlisted companies were judged by an expert panel assembled by the Australian Financial Review themselves as well as innovation consultants, Inventium. In place of what has traditionally been a Top 100 list, there were ten categories each with ten winning companies. Judges assessed:
- an innovation that entrants had implemented in the past 12 months
- how the innovation was applied and embedded within the given organisation
- as well as the ensuing result utilising employee surveys to gauge the length and breadth of the innovation
The process involved an initial submission, a pitch describing the nominated innovation, as well an industry benchmark report comparing entrants with one another.
This marks an incredible achievement for a brand who has stood the test of time and continues to innovate after thirty years in business.
The winners were announced on Friday the 9th of August. Click here to see the full list.
